OUR LEARNERS WITH THEIR PORTFOLIOS, FINISHED AUDIO CDS AND VISION BOARDS!!

THIS BLOG WAS WRITTEN COLLECTIVELY BY NEW LEAF LEARNERS!

Listen up was recommended to us by our New Leaf mentors. We knew we could gain confidence by going on the course, although we felt a little apprehensive as it is always feels strange going into a room full of people we don’t know.

We started off with a few ice breakers and went straight into creating vision boards. This is where we needed to look into our future and plan what it would look like. Some of us wanted happiness, some wanted health, some wanted to have a calm mind and inner peace. Some of us have just moved here and need set down roots.

Our next session challenged our comfort zones, we worked as a team to create a new leaf promotional trail. This activity was for a team building task. We created a script and then each had designated lines that were read out and recorded. This highlighted each persons strengths as all four of us were new to this. Walking away from this session invigorated, chuffed and uplifted with our new skills. It was so much fun and we were able to gain so many transferable skills.

This was followed by us creating scripts for our own aspirational journeys. We practiced a few times and recorded them on to the microphone. With the energy in the room being so electric, Caroline set us another team task but this one focused on keeping people grounded, motivated and balanced. This was to provide people with a more positive mind set. Providing people with ways to keep you going through trying times.

Session 4 we designed cd covers templates that would eventually be put onto a cd to house all our finished audio pieces. We designed covers that have reflected our experience on the course so far. This was emotional for some participants because they used family photos, some people found it symbolic and a reminder of how to keep going and some people found it easier to actually see themselves in the future they envisioned.

LEARNERS PRODUCE DESIGNS ON PAPER TEMPLATES AND THEN WE TRANSFER THEIR DESIGNS ON TO FINISHED AUDIO CDS FOR THEM TO TAKE HOME AND SHARE WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS OR JUST TO MOTIVATE THEM!

The process throughout this course was cathartic and touched on all of the senses. We visualised our future, we created boards to symbolise our future and what we wanted in it, we wrote our future, we said and recorded our future so that it can also be used to pick us up in testing times. All of this has provided us with a coping mechanism portfolio and opportunities to work with others providing all of the learners with so many amazing transferable skills in a really enjoyable environment.
